About

David S. Robbins, MA

My name is David Robbins and I offer counseling, psychotherapy, and coaching services for men in Boulder, CO and the Denver Metro area.

I’ve been counseling, coaching and mentoring indvidual and groups of men, ranging in age from 18 to 70 for the past 12 years. I’ve worked in various settings such as non-profit adult and elder education, Naropa University, Boulder County Jail, Boulder Mental Health Center and currently in private practice.

I hold a Masters Degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University. In addition to my work as a therapist, I also teach mindfulness meditation classes and work as a mindfulness instructor and clinical support for the Graduate School of Psychology at Naropa University. I’ve been involved recently with working individually and in a group format with inmates at the Boulder County Jail who struggle with chronic mental illness.

Prior to working in private practice, I worked as an intern counselor at Naropa University’s counseling center. At Naropa, I worked as an individual therapist, offering counseling and psychotherapy to students in need. I’ve also worked with HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield offering grief support to the recently bereaved.

Before my work as a therapist, I worked with several non-profits in Boston, MA, and then in Boulder. First, with elders and later at the intersection of Buddhism and Neuroscience, with the Mind and Life Institute. While in Boston, I nurtured interests in composing and performing original folk/rock music in coffeehouses and nightclubs. I feel creativity is essential for personal expression. While I now pursue music and songwriting as a hobbyist, I feel it is an essential and balancing aspect in my life.

I have experienced many of the struggles and stresses that contemporary men experience: moves/transition, being away from family and friends, breakups and relationship conflict and challenges, pressures of corporate jobs, stifled creativity, career transition and change. Processing our life challenges in a supportive environment can transform them. In this way, therapy and coaching allows one to free up energy and creativity to thrive and create the meaningful life we want.

I am in my late-30s and am happily married. I have experienced both the challenges and the fruits of committed relationship. I enjoy the balanced life that I have created in Boulder, that includes meaningful work, friends, family, spiritual community, athletics, and wandering the amazing natural environment of Colorado’s Front Range.

I draw on my professional experiences and training, as well as my personal experiences when counseling men. I strive to create a therapeutic experience tailored to your unique needs and background.
